Crisis & Emergency Risk Communication Video

This program, originally broadcast on April 15, 2004 from the University at Albany Center for Public Health Preparedness, addresses the heightened role of public health professionals since September 11th. It provides clear guidelines for communicating in high risk situations. Barbara Reynolds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention addresses the following questions:

  • In a situation of high risk or uncertainty, what is the best way to communicate with the public and other officials?
  • How can public health professionals protect the community and simultaneously keep panic at a minimum?
  • How can public health professionals clearly communicate with law enforcement officials and medical providers in an emergency?

After viewing the program, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate how to protect people simultaneously and keep panic to a minimum;
  • Identify ways to best communicate with public and other officials; and
  • Describe ways of communicating in high risk situations.

You may view a webstream of this broadcast at the Center for Public Health Preparedness website.
