The United States is witnessing an alarming increase in the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes in youth, strongly correlated to the diabetes and obesity epidemics that are sweeping the nation in the adult population. Health experts have particular concerns about the long-term health consequences of developing diabetes at such an early stage in life.
In this one-hour program, Frank Vinicor, Director, Division of Diabetes Translation, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, addresses the challenges in dealing with children becoming afflicted with type 2 diabetes, as well as techniques for tailoring interventions to children who are at risk. This program is from the University at Albany School of Public Health’s “Public Health Live – T2B2” Series, designed to provide continuing education opportunities on public health issues. T2B2 is sponsored by the School of Public Health, University at Albany; the New York State Department of Health; and the New York State Community Health Partnership.
