This pamphlet is an essential resource for healthcare personnel who are at risk for occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens.

 

Exposures occur through needle sticks or cuts from sharp instruments contaminated with an infected patient's blood or through contact of the eye, nose, mouth, or skin with a patient's blood. 

 

It highlights important information about what to do if an exposure occurs, the risk of becoming infected after an exposure, and post-exposure treatment and follow-up. The pamphlet was developed by the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion and the Division of Viral Hepatitis, National Center for Infectious Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
